Maximizing trust and confidence in the scientific record is a multi-stakeholder commitment that includes researchers, publishers, reviewers, funders and institutions.  Research integrity and publishing ethics are interconnected, and only through the application of robust standards and a commitment to excellence across the research and publishing cycle can the integrity of research be safeguarded. At STM we believe that, as an industry, we are accountable for maintaining the highest editorial standards, ensuring the application of rigorous workflow processes for all publications. These run from handling submissions and evaluating soundness of method, the novelty and potential impact of published content, right through to publication, dissemination and the stewardship of the version of record post-publication. It also includes timely action, delivered in a transparent manner when potential issues are raised, including managing investigations, post-publication corrections (incl. retractions), and communications to the scientific community.
