STM members have committed themselves to facilitate access to the works they publish by a number of signatory declarations and safe harbours.
These declarations and statements relate to text and data mining, orphan works, works which are no longer commercially available and document delivery to least-developed countries:
STM believes that publishers should have the tools to offer a wide variety of appropriate licensing terms dependent on their economic model and business strategy. To that end, the Association has produced sample licences for a variety of uses within open access publishing.
STM’s former Legal Affairs Committee provides a short Summary Statement on Text and Data Mining (TDM) as well as a sample licence that can be used for a variety of TDM purposes (whether stand alone, project by project, or as part of a larger content subscription arrangement).
