Dr. Shara Kabak, since 2017, works as the Research Misconduct Officer at the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
In this role, Shara is responsible for developing policies for and overseeing the handling of research misconduct allegations by VA research facilities.
Previously, Shara served in the US Office of Research Integrity (ORI) for six years. She was responsible for reviewing research misconduct inquiries and investigations conducted by extramural institutions receiving Public Health Service funding.
Dr. Sonya Dumanis is the Executive Vice President of the Coalition for Aligning Science and Deputy Director of Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s, a flagship initiative under the Coalitions’ management, whose mission is to accelerate the pace of discovery and inform the path to a cure for Parkinson’s Disease through facilitating collaboration, generating research enable resources, and data sharing.
Previously, Dr. Dumanis was the Vice President of Research and Innovation at the Epilepsy Foundation. While there, she oversaw the growth of the Epilepsy Therapy Project, an entrepreneurship incubator providing seed funding and mentorship to epilepsy startups, launched the Epilepsy Innovation Institute, an innovation incubator tackling high-risk projects in the epilepsy space. Prior to joining the Epilepsy Foundation in 2016, she worked at the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy, tasked with identifying philanthropic opportunities poised to have a transformative impact on the state of research and developing research programs.
Dr. Dumanis completed her postdoctoral training at both the Johns Hopkins University and the Max-Delbrück Center in Berlin, Germany. She earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Georgetown University. She has authored over 25 scientific articles and received several honors, including an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, a National Science Foundation fellowship, a national research service award from the National Institutes of Health, the Harold N Glassman Award for best science dissertation at Georgetown University, and the Mark A. Smith prize from the Journal of Neurochemistry.
Dr. Tucker is the Acting Deputy Director of the Office of Science Policy (OSP) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In this position, she helps provide leadership on a number of policy topics that impact biomedical research. She previously served as the Director of the Division of Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Emerging Biotechnology Policy within OSP, where she led work on a number of policy topics, including the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules, dual-use research, and emerging biotechnologies.
Previously, Dr. Tucker was a Program Director at the National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at NIH where she managed a program on gene and drug delivery systems and on synthetic biology. Prior to her time at NIH, she worked at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, which she joined initially as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Policy Fellow. Prior to her time at HHS, Dr. Tucker was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University within the Department of Technology and Society, where she conducted engineering education research and lectured within the Department of Chemical and Molecular Engineering. Dr. Tucker worked for two years in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Tucker holds a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Shane M Hanlon, PhD, is a Senior Producer with The Story Collider. A conservation biologist turned science communicator, he is also Executive Producer and co-host of the American Geophysical Union’s podcast Third Pod from the Sun and Manager of their Sharing Science program where he teaches fellow scientists how to communicate effectively. Every summer he serves as an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology.
Fiona Hutton is Head of Publishing at eLife. She leads the four publishing departments responsible for the journal and is responsible for the implementation and delivery of eLife’s new publication model which focuses on the Reviewed Preprint.
Fiona has worked in scholarly publishing for over 20 years (Cambridge University Press, Wiley, Elsevier) driving the strategic and operational transformation to OA publishing, creating innovative open research products and publishing models (Cambridge Prisms, Research Directions, Experimental Results), and has held a variety of key roles in Review publishing (Trends, eLS, WIREs).
She holds a Ph.D. in Cancer Virology and has a degree in Molecular Biology.
Dr. Joshua Schnell is Director, Academic & Government Global Consultancy at Clarivate, overseeing a team of consultants and data scientists conducting scientometric analyses, program evaluations, and strategic planning for research funders, universities, and research and development organizations.
He has expertise in science planning, the evaluation of R&D, and science and technology policy. He has worked previously in research administration at Northwestern University, was an S&T Policy Graduate Fellow at the US National Academies of Science, and holds a Ph.D. in molecular biosciences.
He is currently the co-chair of the Research, Technology, and Development (RTD) Topical Interest Group of the American Evaluation Association.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Vilnius University and a master’s degree in International Marketing and Management from ISM University of Management and Economics.
I started my career at VTeX, during my Physics studies, as a LaTeX typesetter and had a chance to work on many manuscripts from the biggest academic publishers. I worked in this position throughout my master’s studies, and after finishing them, started a position as a Partner Relations Manager. I then had a chance to meet and present our company to many publishers at different Fairs and Conferences.
After 1 year in this position, I established the Business Development department within the organization and became a Business Development Director. The main objective of this position is to diversify the business and find new sources of income, which is why we have launched a new service that promotes the discoverability and accessibility of research outputs.
Anna Kende is a professor of social psychology at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest.
Her research revolves around issues of intergroup relations, more specifically, she investigates the psychological underpinnings of social change both in the area of prejudice reduction and engagement in social movements.
She has participated in and coordinated several international research projects funded by the EU, national and international organisations, mostly concerning the situation of structurally disadvantaged groups, such as the European Roma.
She has also published several papers on issues concerning the problem of diversity and inclusion in science and publication. She is the director of the Institute of Psychology and the chair of the Social Groups and Media Research Lab.
Chad Sansing (he, him) is the Product Manager at PREreview.
Previously he worked on web literacy curriculum, open leadership development, and community programs at the Mozilla Foundation; he was a teacher for 14 years before that.
Outside of meetings, stands, and user research interviews, you can find him gaming, reading, and hanging out with family, friends, and his constant companion, chief canine officer Sleepy the Dog.
Dr. Giulia Stefenelli holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences (2012) and a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Technologies (2015) from the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (Milano, Italy).
She completed her Ph.D. (2019) in Sciences at ETH Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland) with a focus on atmospheric chemistry and air pollution research.
She performed research work at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Villigen, Switzerland) and wrote a Doctoral thesis on the identification and chemical characterization of major sources of particulate matter in ambient air, as well as environmental chamber studies, including investigation of major gas phase emissions.
She joined MDPI in June 2020 as Assistant Editor for IJERPH and Dermatopathology.
