Marie Soulière

Dr Marie F Soulière is the Head of Editorial Ethics and Quality Assurance at the open-access publisher Frontiers, based in Switzerland. She leads strategic publishing projects across departments and product platforms. Her expertise focuses on balancing rigorous quality assurance and ethical standards with operational efficiency, enhanced by the strategic use of technology.
With a PhD in biochemistry and postdoctoral experience in chemical and computational biology she transitioned her scientific expertise into scholarly publishing in 2010. A visionary force in publication ethics, Marie led the Research Integrity and Peer Review teams at Frontiers for several years, and played a pivotal role in developing the industry’s first Research Integrity AI assistant (AIRA) released in 2018.
She was a key contributor to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)’s 2021 guidelines on AI for decision-making in publishing, and led the development of the 2025 COPE and STM guides on guest-edited collections.
An elected COPE council member since 2020, she chairs its Papermill working group, serves on the CrossRef Membership and Fees committee, and joined the STM Research Integrity Committee in 2025.
