Just launched: the STM AI Portal

AI & Trusted Research

How AI shapes — and is shaped by — the academic record

From accelerating drug development to enabling green technologies, AI holds extraordinary promise for science — but it also introduces real risks, from AI-generated misinformation to large-scale manipulation of the academic record.

As the pace of change accelerates, publishers and partners across the research ecosystem are already taking action: developing safeguards, exploring frameworks, and sharing best practices. What’s needed is a single, accessible space to bring this work together.

That’s why STM has launched the AI Portal: a dynamic hub curating resources, commentary, and guidance to help our members and the broader community navigate the evolving intersection of AI and academic publishing.

“Thanks to the continued engagement and support of our members, we’re now able to bring together, in one place, the many areas where STM has been shaping positions, contributing to global dialogue, and developing resources on AI,” said Caroline Sutton, CEO of STM. “This portal offers our community a single entry point to get up to speed, find guidance, and see where we’re headed next.”

Inside, you can find up-to-date information such as:

  • Resources and Statements: a living library of global guidance, statements, analysis and tools to help shape ethical, human-centric AI in research publishing.
  • Rights Reservation: practical recommendations on mechanisms to reserve rights for TDM use, such as Robots.txt, TDMRep, and ISCC.
  • Copyright & Licensing: STM’s position on copyright and licensing in the AI era.
  • Researcher Perspectives: an ongoing curation of articles capturing what researchers think about AI in their work.
  • AI in Science: how AI strengthens discovery, supports researchers, and reinforces the academic record.
  • Where Are We Headed?: STM Trends — our annual futurecast — mapping opportunities, threats, and big questions in the years ahead.

The AI Portal is a living site — it will be updated regularly as this space evolves.
