Background

The Copyright chapter of the Code of Practice (the Code) describes a set of measures that General Purpose AI (GPAI) model providers commit to taking when signing the Code in order to comply with their obligation under Article 53(1)(c) AI Act, i.e., to put in place a policy to comply with EU copyright law, and in particular to identify and comply with a reservation of rights expressed pursuant to Article 4(3) of the Directive for Copyright in the DSM ((EU) 2019/790). The Code was drafted by experts in consultation with stakeholders and its adequacy was confirmed by the AI Office and the AI Board as a voluntary tool for providers of GPAI models to demonstrate compliance with the AI Act
