Xiaohong Helena Yang

Dr. Xiaohong (Helena) Yang is currently Vice President, Government and Academic Affairs at Springer Nature. She started her STM publishing career in 2008 at Cell Press, where she held several senior titles such as Deputy Editor for Cancer Cell, Acting Deputy Editor for Cell etc. As Cell Press’ China representative (2012-2018), she launched multiple influential initiatives such as “Chinese Scientists and Cell Press”, Asia’s first Cell Symposium, Molecular Plant publisher in a journal partnership with CAS etc. She first joined Springer Nature in 2018 as Scientific Director, Greater China and Nature series Executive Editor and subsequently VP Academic & Government Affairs Greater China. She re-joined Springer Nature in March 2024. She is a co-founder of the ISTIC-SN Joint Laboratory on Open Science. She also co-led MIT Technology Review’s 2021 and 2022 “35 Innovators under 35” program for Asia and China as MTR China’s co-publisher and EiC. Dr. Yang is always passionate about innovations and international collaborations and dialogues. She received her Ph.D. degree from the Cold Springer Harbor Laboratory-Stony Brook University joint program in Molecular Genetics. She has published in highly influential journals such as Cell, Molecular Cell, Nature Medicine as well as book chapters.
