Founded in 1951 by the Max Plank Society, today the Beilstein-Institut is a non-profit foundation residing in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The mission of the Beilstein-Institut is to promote the advancement of the chemical and related sciences. A key aspect of all activities is the fostering of communication, collaboration and sharing of ideas between scientists.
Since 2005, the Beilstein-Institut has been supporting science and scientists worldwide with their open access journals. They also work closely with the community on data standardization projects and host symposia, workshops and virtual talks on topics of high interest to their communities. As a non-profit publisher, the Beilstein-Institut has built and continues to expand their own submission, tracking and publishing system, in addition to a preprint server. The results of all their projects are freely available, without barriers to participation, and funded entirely by the Beilstein-Institut.
