Editorial Development Manager
Role Overview
The Editorial Development Manager, China is responsible for building strategic relationships with the scientific community in China to support our commissioning and product development objectives by identifying suitable target authors, topical guest editors and editorial board members across our portfolio of journals, books and conference proceedings series, and fostering connections with the publishing development team for subsequent follow-up commissioning actions.
The role will work closely with Publishing, Marketing, Sales and Media teams in Beijing and across IOPP’s international offices.
What will you be doing?
Key job accountabilities include:
- Identify and develop opportunities and workshop, symposium activities to increase researcher engagement and increase profile of IOPP’s brand and products effectively within China
- Provide key customer and market insight to inform our Chinese strategy such as in institutional and government policies around scholarly publishing
- Collaborate with UK colleagues to ensure impact with key stakeholders within China including Bristol Publishers’ interactions with target authors and editorial board members, including Publisher visits to China
- Identify suitable target authors, guest editors, conference proceedings organisers, potential editorial board members and reviewers to support the Publishing department’s commissioning, product development and strategic growth targets
- Build strategic relationships with researchers and institutional stakeholders in China to increase IOPP’s influence and impact
- Work closely with the Associate Director to develop the China strategies and plans for the assigned portfolio and support ad hoc tasks
About you:
- Degree in physical sciences is essential, with a higher degree (MSc or PhD) a strong advantage
- In-depth knowledge and experience of journal publishing and the STM industry.
- A strong understanding of the international research environment and knowledge of research and funding policies and mechanisms in China highly desirable
- Experience working with senior level positions in academic and government organisations
- Experience organising events and managing projects
- Ability to work effectively on cross-functional project teams and across the organisation
- Ability to network effectively and work independently
- Fluent in English
