Editor – 9 month FTC

Role Summary

About the role:

As an Editor, you will focus on ensuring the provision of an efficient peer review process across a portfolio of journals. Reporting to the Peer Review Team Manager, you’ll play an important role in improving author service, quality, supporting and supervising the team, and achieving the goals for the group. In collaboration with the Journals Development team you will support initiatives aimed at improving our journals, capturing quality content and increasing market share through knowledge of the subject area and community engagement.

You’ll demonstrate expertise in the peer review process including managing reviewer selection, decision making on articles, efficient handling of papers and ensuring integrity in the research published. You’ll coach and motivate team members to ensure processing targets are met and will be expected to contribute to, and lead on, continuous improvement initiatives to increase the efficiency and quality of our service.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and developing effective relationships with external stakeholders, you’ll take a proactive approach to identifying new initiatives to improve the journals and their positions within their respective communities. You will have strong communication and organisational skills combined with commercial awareness and understanding of what it takes to make a journal attractive to its community, helping to make it first choice for authors and readers.

About you:

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A degree or PhD in a relevant scientific subject
  • Previous experience and understanding of the peer review process, preferably at a scholarly publisher
  • Expert knowledge of peer review processes and awareness of COPE guidelines
  • Ability to take responsibility and assess complex situations, using data to make decisions
  • Working autonomously, but also as part of a team and able to motivate others
  • Excellent communication with the ability to build strong relationships
