Job Summary

IOP Publishing are looking for motivated Publishers to join our team! We have a mixture of permanent and fixed-term contract roles. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and rapidly expanding Journals Development team. If you’re passionate about science communication and its impact, then look no further!

Role Overview

Publishers are responsible for shaping the strategy for a portfolio of journals and lead on its development towards those goals. As a Publisher, you will develop and implement commissioning plans through desk-based and in-person author interactions, as well as engage and manage Editorial Boards and partner relationships at the journal-level. Reporting into the Senior Publisher, this role will require you to work with other Publishers and Assistant Publishers across the Journals Development team, as well as with other stakeholders across the business.

What will you be doing?
Key job accountabilities include:

  • Work with the Senior Publisher to implement the portfolio and journals strategies
  • Develop and review commissioning plans in line with journal growth
  • Build and develop existing relationship with potential authors and Editorial Board members
  • Manage and develop relationships with partners

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • STM publishing experience

Our modern and contemporary offices are based in the thriving city centre of Bristol, a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads train station, and within walking distance of Cabot Circus shopping centre, and numerous cafés and restaurants. Named on more than one occasion as the best city in the UK to live in, Bristol is a cosmopolitan and creative city boasting a historic harbour, internationally renowned cultural institutions and home to world-class festivals and events.

As there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office on a weekly basis, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to Bristol up to once a month, subject to business needs.

For Beijing-based applicants:

This role is based in our Beijing office, with the possibility of working from home 2 days per week.

The office is in Haidian district, which is known to be a highly academic area, and easily accessible by public transportation. We currently have 18 colleagues (a mixture of editors, publishers, sales and marketing roles) working here, but there’s plenty of room to accommodate new friendly faces! To keep everyone engaged and feel like they’re part of the IOPP community, we organise monthly office get togethers, and we also have regular team building activities.
