Shelley Allen

Shelley Allen is Head of Open Research at Emerald. With 19 years’ experience within academic publishing, working in mostly editorial roles across a range of subject disciplines Shelley is passionate about driving change and ensuring real impact for the communities Emerald serves.

Shelley has a keen interest in open science, particularly exploring ways to translate research for new audiences as well as leveraging the wider impact “Open” can have, including bringing new and diverse voices into the research landscape.

Yamini Arora

Yamini Arora is Chief Marketing Officer and a member of the board of Directors at MPS.

MPS provides platforms and content solutions to the world’s leading publishers and learning companies. As Chief Marketing Officer at MPS, Yamini helps the world’s leading learning companies develop and publish effective and engaging products and content.

Prior to MPS, Yamini worked with Gallup Consulting, where she helped her clients create their business and socio-economic strategies. Prior to that, she worked with clients at Havas Media to develop their Marketing and Advertising strategies.

Her areas of expertise include Publishing, Marketing, and Strategy; for which she has received many awards throughout the course of her career and education. She has published several articles which have been covered by the international media.

Ben Johnson

I work at the intersection between science, publishing and communities, developing new ways for researchers to communicate their discoveries and strengthening relationships within the scientific community using innovative technology.

I have extensive experience in:

• Journal acquisitions

I am also very active in my local community in South London. I am a trustee of United St Saviour’s Charity, which operate almshouses and distributes grants to local organisations in Southwark, London.

From 2014-18 I was a Councillor in the London Borough of Southwark and vice-chair of several committees including Planning and Scrutiny, as well as a past chair of Bermondsey and Old Southwark Liberal Democrats.

Chris Brennan

Christopher Brennan is ECMS Systems Manager at Emerald Publishing, he has over 15 years of publishing experience across a variety of sectors.

Chris began his career as a journalist on consumer publications before transitioning to a variety of freelance publishing roles in B2B and B2C positions.

He is a guest lecturer and final year undergraduate supervisor at Leeds Beckett University covering publishing topics for the Business School.

Liam O’Dwyer

Liam is Special Collections and Digital Humanities Librarian at Dublin City University.

He has an MA in Digital Humanities and has worked on library-led digital humanities projects as well as providing training and consultation to academic staff involved in digital scholarship.

Liam’s current role, a relatively new one to his Library, involves developing a DH function for the Library within the University. He is a core member of the current LIBER Working Group on Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage and leads a team exploring challenges and approaches for libraries in the area of cooperation with research communities.

Bryan Davies

VP, Product Solutions in the Reference Solutions Books business at Elsevier. ​

I have been with Elsevier for 18 years in several project and product management roles focussing on customer driven innovation in the Reference space. I lead a small but high performing team based in Asia, Europe and the US that is highly skilled at collaborating and executing across a matrix organisation with a focus on transitioning our business from a print-based transactional to one that is online and recurring – ​and at the same time redefining what ‘reference’ means to our customers and our organisation.

I am an electronic systems engineer by background, having served in the military and in the rail sectors before moving to Elsevier.

Jo Burges

Jo Burges is Project Manager and Implementation Consultant for knk Software UK, having joined the organisation earlier this year.

Founded in 1988 knk develops and distributes knkPublishing – the only Microsoft-certified publishing software in the world. It complements the range of services provided by Microsoft Dynamics with publishing-specific functionality for book, magazine and specialist publishers and is based on the latest web and BI technology.

Jo brings to the role 30 years’ hands-on experience of working in academic and professional publishing in a variety of positions including Publisher, Editorial and Production Director and Systems Director. She has also worked as an independent consultant with clients across the publishing, not-for-profit and membership sectors.

Emma Shumeyko

Since 2015, Emma has been the managing editor at the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, where she is responsible for three peer-reviewed medical journals: Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, CPT: Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology, and Clinical and Translational Science.

Previously, she worked in the journal’s editorial office at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Emma received her Masters of Professional Studies, Publishing from George Washington University in 2014 and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Michelle Norell

Michelle Norell is Head of Business Development for Sheridan’s PubFactory hosting platform responsible for new business and marketing initiatives.

Over the last 12 years, Michelle has worked closely with publishers in selecting and deploying new technologies and systems.

She has previously served on SSP’s Board of Directors and currently contributes to ALPSP’s Professional Development Committee.

Fiona Counsell

Dr Fiona Counsell is Head of Open Access Operations & Policy at Taylor & Francis.

Fiona has been with T&F for nearly 10 years, managing journals initially and latterly contributing to the growth of OA in a strategic and operational role.

In her ‘spare time’ Fiona is heavily involved in Taylor & Francis’ employee-run Women in Publishing committee and in the STM Early Career Publishers Committee as co-chair of the outreach committee.
