Jennifer is currently the Managing Director at Aries Systems Corporation, provider of workflow solutions for scholarly publishers.
Since starting at Aries Systems in 2005, she has served as Chief Operating Officer, headed up large-scale development projects that introduce XML-based tools into Aries workflow products, and led the Client Services department, which is responsible for training, implementing and supporting all publications using Editorial Manager® and ProduXion Manager®.
In addition to her experience with Aries Systems, Jennifer has held a variety of positions in the STM publishing industry, including Director of Publishing Services at Sheridan Journal Services and Production, Licensing and Marketing Manager at PNAS. Jennifer holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins University.
José de Buerba is Head of Business Intelligence and Digital Governance at the World Bank’s Communications Vice-Presidency.
He focuses on measuring the impact of the World Bank communication’s activities by performing research, developing insights and providing recommendations. He is the Chair of the Non-Profit Group and International Board Member for AMEC (The International Association for the Measurement and Evaluation of Communications).
Previously, José was Marketing Manager at World Bank Publishing where we worked to disseminate globally, and increase the impact of, the institution’s research outputs.
Prior to joining the World Bank he was Deputy Managing Director at Mundi-Prensa Libros, an international publishing house based in Spain. He is a graduate in Economics from Universidad Carlos III in Madrid and studied at the European School of Brussels.
Annie is the Journals Operations Manager at Cambridge University Press. This is a cross-functional role involving daily interaction across all Journals departments at the Press. She has overall responsibility for the smooth transition of journals to and from Cambridge, and oversees the launch workflow for Open Access journals. She is also responsible for optimising our traditional institutional subscription renewals processes, and improving internal reporting on subscriptions performance. Under this remit, she runs the Journals’ telemarketing programme, through which we have daily contact with our librarian customers. Annie comes from a Journals Editorial background, having previously worked on the Psychology & Psychiatry list at Cambridge, and the Materials Chemistry list at the Royal Society of Chemistry.
I am an Associate Society Acquisitions Manager in Wiley’s Research business, spending most of my day researching societies and analysing journals, writing proposals, and building financial projections in order to win new business. I joined Wiley in 2017 after completing my MSc in human evolution and a brief stint at a small publishing start-up. Alongside my day job I am the Treasurer of Generation Wiley, a company-wide community group that works to create dialogue with senior leadership and provide professional development support for early career colleagues. I also sit on the committee of the Oxford Publishing Society, which primarily organises industry-related panel events.
Mihaela Gruia is a social and data scientist passionate about the intersection between research, communication and design.
She is the founder and director of Research Retold, a specialist research communication service with a vision to make research accessible and to have a positive impact in society.
Research Retold supports researchers and evaluators to engage with non-experts by making their findings digestible and enabling their ideas to be acted on.

Stefano works as an Impact Evaluation Analyst at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where he is in charge of assessing how stakeholders perceive, utilize and amplify OECD recommendations and findings.
He advises the Public Affairs and Communications Directorate on how to increase the OECD’s impact, leveraging data collected through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Prior to joining the OECD, he was working at Edelman Intelligence, leading public institutions and governments in the Middle East in measuring the success of their soft power strategies.
Stefano holds a Master’s degree in International Negotiations and speaks four languages: English, French, Italian and Arabic.
Charlotte Bruce is a Senior Journal Development Editor in the Microbiology team within Research at Springer Nature. She manages a portfolio of journals, which includes implementing and delivering on a variety of strategic development goals. She has worked in publishing for 3 years, and was previously at Wiley in the role of Open Access Coordinator. In this role she was responsible for helping develop the OA business. Charlotte graduated from the University of Southampton in 2018 and has a MA in Medieval Literature and a BA in English Literature
Dr Anke Beck is CEO for IntechOpen, the open access book publisher. She joined IntechOpen in August 2018 and has been a vocal champion for open access books in the competitive OA marketplace. Her career in publishing began in 1994 as Editor in Chief of Mouton de Gruyter and in 2007 she joined the senior management team at De Gruyter. She was appointed Managing Director of the company in 2013.
Anke Beck studied Linguistics at the University of Regensburg and received a Masters in Languages and Linguistics and International Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. She received her PhD in Linguistics from the University of Bielefeld.
Dr. Melissa Patterson is Director of Editorial Development for AIP Publishing. She oversees a subset of the journal portfolio covering applied physics, chemical physics, materials science, and biophysics. In her over ten years in publishing, she has focused on creating innovative content development strategies for an array of disciplines and in expanding the open access footprint of the publisher via new journal launches. She has a passion for research integrity, reproducibility, and accessibility of science and scholarly works. Over the course of her career, she has been responsible for maintaining the ethical integrity of the portfolio, creating workflows, policies, and guidelines to help Editors and the publishing team navigate potential cases of misconduct. Prior to her career in publishing, Melissa earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Stony Brook University and conducted post-doctoral research at Brookhaven National Laboratory. She also holds a degree in Adolescent Science Education in Chemistry.
Paul Lewis is Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) overseeing an international STM journals, books and data publishing business with supporting technology and, sales & marketing teams operating from six international hubs. He also has a wider organisational leadership role, developing RSC strategy and capabilities as well as representing the RSC in the UK and overseas to a broad range of stakeholders from RSC members to government ministers.
Prior to working at the RSC, Paul gained substantial leadership experience in the Education, Skills and Assessment sectors including Regional Director and, Product Development Director roles at Cambridge Assessment and more recently as International Director at City & Guilds. Paul also has top-tier management consulting experience working directly with UK Government Ministers to develop an education exports strategy, personally leading engagement activities that delivered over £1billion of export sales for the UK. Earlier in his career, Paul qualified as a teacher and held a Vice-Principal role at a London Further Education College. He is professionally qualified with an Honours degree and MBA. Paul is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and, Institute of Leadership & Management.
