Deborah Poff

Deborah Poff is a retired Professor of Philosophy and Senior Academic Administrator. She holds four degrees from three universities in Canada (University of Guelph, Queen’s University, Carleton University). Her Ph.D. was in Philosophy of Science. During Deborah’s career, she was variously the Director of a Research Institute; a Dean of Arts and Science; a Vice-President Academic and Provost and a President and Vice-Chancellor at various Canadian Universities.

During her career, she has also been an active researcher, teacher and editor and is the founding Editor in Chief of the Journal of Academic Ethics which she edited for over 20 years. She is currently the Editor of the Journal of Scholarly Publishing, published by University of Toronto Press. Throughout her career, she has been the editor of five scholarly journals, a book series and has published numerous other monographs and anthologies. Her research and publication areas are: Applied Ethics, including Business and Professional Ethics; Research Ethics, Publication Ethics, Leadership Ethics and Feminist Studies. In 1995, she was awarded a lifetime honorary membership by the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women in the category of “Outstanding Contribution to Feminist Scholarship”. Her most recent publication is an anthology entitled “Corporate Social Responsibility and University Governance”. Her monograph in progress is on the history of discrimination from Aristotle to Now.

Among her many service accomplishments, she served nine years on the Committee on Publication Ethics Council and Board of Trustees, including in the role of Chair, and is a recognized leader in the field of publication ethics.

In 2016, Deborah Poff was awarded the Order of Canada through the Office of the Governor General of Canada.

Shuai Yan

Shuai Yan is STM China Consultant since November 2021. In his role, Shuai will support STM’s policy and advocacy work across China.

Shuai worked in the Journal Publishing Department of Beijing Forestry University from 1985 to 2011, starting as an assistant editor and working up to the director of the Department.

From 2011 to 2017 he worked with Tsinghua University Press as its director of Journal Publishing.

From 2017 to 2020 Shuai worked with Springer Nature Greater China as director of academic relationships (including government relations).

He had served as the president of the Society of China University Journals (CUJS), the vice president of China Periodicals Association (CPA), and the vice president of the China Editology Society for Scientific Periodicals (CESSP).

Shuai holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry economics and management and a Ph.D. in management.

Freya Leask

Freya Leask is Publisher of Future Science Group, a progressive scientific publishing house. As part of this role, she jointly leads on the strategic development and delivery of FSG’s eCommunities, including Bioanalysis Zone, BioTechniques and RegMedNet, and is also FSG’s Head of Client Projects. Before joining FSG in 2016, Freya held project management and editorial roles at other scientific publishing/agency organizations and received her MChem in Chemistry at the University of Bradford (UK).

Naamah Maundrell

Naamah Maundrell is the Editor-in-Chief of Bioanalysis Zone. This digital hub is one of the scientific communities which is part of Future Science Group, a progressive scientific publisher. Since joining Future Science Group in 2016, she has been responsible for writing and developing creative content such as hosting panel discussions, webinars and events. She received her BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Reading (UK).

Emma Buckingham

Emma Buckingham is Editorial Operations Manager at IWA Publishing, an association publisher working with the International Water Association to open access to research in all things water. Emma helps to manage the operation of peer review processes and journal development for IWAP’s in-house portfolio of 14 Open Access journals. Originally starting out as an Editorial Assistant at IWAP, after achieving an MLitt in Publishing Studies from the University of Stirling, Emma is keen to encourage other graduates to take the opportunities to get into STM Publishing.

Harriet Muncey

Harriet Muncey (she/they) is a Data Science Manager at Elsevier with a keen interest in Responsible AI policy.

After a PhD in bioinformatics at Imperial, Harriet has worked in analytics and data science for 10 years applying statistics and machine learning. In their role at Elsevier, they have led data science teams working in areas such as web optimisation, user behaviour modelling, NLP, predictive analytics and recommender systems.

Harriet is currently working on internal Responsible AI policy and evaluation of algorithmic fairness.”

Kate McKellar

Kate McKellar is a Senior Journal Publishing Manager for Wiley and has previously worked for Oxford University Press and Cognella, an educational publisher based in California. At Wiley, Kate is involved in the creation and implementation of future strategy for the SSH publishing program, including partnerships and acquisitions and exploring Open Research opportunities. Kate’s main area of focus is furthering interdisciplinary opportunities within Humanities research.

Matt Cannon

Matthew Cannon is the Head of Open Research for Taylor & Francis where he leads efforts to increase transparency and reproducibility across the broad and varied portfolio. He sets and rolls out policies in a range of open research areas including sharing of data, code, methods and software, registered reports, preprints and open peer review. He sits on the publisher advisory board of Centre of Open Science and www.FAIRSharing.org.

Javier Zarzalejos

Javier Zarzalejos is Member of the European Parliament in the Group of the European People´s Party since July 2019. He is Vice Chair of the Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation, Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and Member of the Committee on Legal Affairs.

He graduated in Law at Deusto University, Bilbao. Javier Zarzalejos engaged in politics from early on in the Basque Country region and has broad experience in the public administration sector where he has held several positions including Assistant Secretary of the Spanish-North American Council (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), General Deputy Director of Information (Ministry of the Spokesperson), Information Advisor (Embassy of Spain to the United Kingdom) and Secretary General of the Prime Minister’s Office.

He has published various pieces of work on terrorism, the territorial organization of the state and nationalism. He collaborates with the journal El Correo (Vocento group), where he regularly publishes opinion and political analysis articles.

In January 2012 he was appointed Secretary General at the think tank Foundation for Social Analysis and Studies (FAES), of which he then became Director in January 2017. Mr. Zarzalejos is also Editor of the in-house publication “Cuadernos de Pensamiento Político”.

Amane Koizumi

Professor Amane Koizumi currently works for National Institutes of Natural Sciences, Japan, since 2013, the headquarter of five national research institutes including astronomy, fusion physics, basic biology, neuroscience/physiology, and molecular science.

In his current role, he is managing/overviewing research activities of their research institutes. He is also an organizing member of the Research University Consortium (RUC), Japan. Koizumi is a graduate of Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan (1997).

After he got a Japanese medical doctor license, Koizumi became a PhD for retinal neurophysiology in Keio University.

Koizumi was also a research fellow of Professor Richard H. Masland, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School (2002-2007), Boston, USA.
