Research4Life turns 25

When six publishers and the World Health Organization signed a three-year agreement in July 2001, one journalist predicted its significance would only become clear “in the long run – say, 25 years from now.”

That moment has arrived. Research4Life is now a partnership of more than 200 publishers providing access to more than 250,000 journals, book,s and databases for more than 12,000 institutions across 120 low- and middle-income countries and territories. This week, the community gathers in Geneva to celebrate.

‘What began as an ambitious effort to expand access to scholarly knowledge has grown into a global community working together to strengthen research participation, visibility, and impact.”
