JOINBarbara Kalumenos to retire from STM
Barbara Kalumenos retires from STM on 28 August 2025. Barbara joined STM in 2008 as Director of Public Affairs, at a time when STM was a very different organisation from today. During her time with STM, she built up the organisation’s presence in Europe, while also developing and strengthening relationships in Japan, China, and India.
Barbara’s career with STM has spanned a wide range of issues that have had major impacts on the industry, including intense discussions and changes on copyright, and the emergence and evolution of Open Access and Open Science. Building on her early career as a salesperson, she has used her strong networking skills to connect STM with key stakeholders in Europe and globally. Based in Munich, she has been an important contact point for our German members and for strategic engagement with German and other European publisher associations.
On behalf of the STM community, we thank Barbara for her innumerable contributions in support of STM and the scholarly publishing industry. We would not be where we are today without her, and we wish Barbara all the best for the future.
