WIPO copyright committee advances work on limitations and exceptions

WIPO, the UN agency for intellectual property, brings governments and stakeholders together through its Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) to discuss international copyright policy.

At the latest SCCR meeting in Geneva, discussions continued on copyright limitations and exceptions. Topics agreed for follow ups at the next meeting include limitations and exceptions for preservation, education, and access for people with disabilities. STM General Counsel Molly Stech attended and participated in the meeting, including discussions on WIPO’s Toolkit on Access to Copyrighted Works in the Collections of Cultural Heritage Institutions (document SCCR/48/5). She also joined an IFRRO side event on licensing in the text and image sector and took part in SCCR’s AI Information Session. The next SCCR meeting will take place from 30 November to 4 December 2026. Read more here.
