STM grows its team: two new appointments

STM is pleased to welcome two new colleagues who joined the team in spring 2026.

Georgiana Svensmark-Baciu joins as Senior Manager, Public Affairs EU, based in Brussels. She brings a strong background in publishing, open science, and strategic communications, most recently at Elsevier where she led solution marketing across Copenhagen and Brussels and coordinated open science policy work, reporting to the Vice-President for Open Science. She holds a Master’s in Communication Science from the University of Amsterdam and a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Manchester. In her new role, Georgiana will support STM’s EU policy engagement, working alongside Claudia Russo, Director, Public Affairs EU.

Mithu Lucraft joins as Director of Communications & Marketing. She brings more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications and marketing across scholarly publishing, most recently as a senior consultant at TBI Communications advising academic publishers, research societies, and partner organisations. Before that, she held senior marketing roles at Springer Nature, as well as communications roles at SAGE Publications, and Oxford University Press. She brings deep expertise in multi-channel communications, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement — with a track record of building high-performing teams.

“These appointments reflect STM’s commitment to strengthening both our policy presence and our communications — two areas that are increasingly central to how we serve our members and engage with the wider ecosystem. We’re delighted to have Georgiana and Mithu on the team.” — Caroline Sutton, CEO, STM
