Neil Hammond
Neil Hammond began his academic journals publishing career in 2024 as a Desk Editor and then Online Publishing Manager at Pion Ltd (later acquired by Sage). He moved into journal acquisitions and editorial development at Cambridge University Press in 2009, working with many learned societies across multiple STM disciplines. Since 2016 he has been at the Royal Society of Chemistry, initially as an Executive Editor and from 2020 onwards as Publisher for Open Access journals. In the latter role he has overseen the RSC’s OA journals programme, launching 20 journals and building dedicated teams to operate and develop those titles. A member of the senior management team for journals at the RSC, Neil is also heavily involved in developing the RSC’s data analytics capacity as the business lead of its data warehouse programme and he also carries specific regional responsibilities for RSC’s Editorial teams in the USA and China. He has experience across editorial, production, financial and technology functions, with a particular passion for portfolio development and data analytics.
Prior to his publishing career Neil obtained undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Physics at the University of Liverpool (UK), followed by postdoctoral research at Argonne National Lab (USA). He has authored over 40 peer reviewed research articles.
