Director of International Sales

IGI Global Scientific Publishing is seeking an experienced, motivated, and energetic individual to oversee the company’s international sales strategies and operations in support of its cornerstone products, including the comprehensive e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement. The Director of International Sales will collaborate closely with the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and the broader sales and marketing team to ensure the company’s global strategic goals are achieved through an effective international sales and marketing strategy, resulting in increased revenue and a strong return on investment (ROI). The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and the leadership capabilities necessary to execute initiatives that significantly expand international market share.
Position Objective:
The Director of International Sales will collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing to implement strong and effective strategies for managing and expanding the company’s international markets, ultimately driving significant sales growth for IGI Global Scientific Publishing products. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing existing partnerships while identifying and developing new relationships and opportunities to maximize sales and profitability for the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
This role requires close collaboration with key stakeholders and librarians worldwide to expand the company’s global market share. The Director of International Sales will also effectively lead and motivate an international sales team to meet the evolving needs of customers and partners. In addition, the position involves serving as a business representative and brand ambassador at major international industry events, libraries, conferences, and trade shows, attending key events to generate leads and execute executive-level sales strategies that optimize growth and profitability.
Essential Functions:
The Director of International Sales will plan, manage, and execute the following tasks:
• Lead all initiatives supporting successful international sales and marketing campaigns for the IGI Global Scientific Publishing e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
• Collaborate closely with IGI Global Scientific Publishing’s international partners to ensure they are fully equipped to promote and sell the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement to shared library customers.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities, distributors, and library partnerships in international markets to support and expand the customer base for the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
• Deploy monthly retention and engagement communications to contributors and researchers at institutions with e-Book Collection subscriptions and/or the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement, encouraging platform usage, scholarly engagement, and new submissions to support renewals and long-term customer retention.
• Participate in weekly strategic planning discussions and present results from initiatives and programs executed in support of international sales efforts.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve required revenue targets for the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records, budgets, and sales tracking reports for all international accounts.
• Collaborate with Customer Service and Accounts Payable teams to generate invoices and support payment collection for international e-Book Collection and Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement customers.
• Review, refine, and distribute promotional materials for the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement across international markets, including distribution partners, representatives, and libraries.
• Conduct visits to major academic libraries in key international markets to promote the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
• Represent IGI Global Scientific Publishing at international conferences and industry events and visit current and prospective client institutions to generate leads and strengthen relationships.
• Manage relevant conference activities, including planning, registration, and coordination with the design team to support booth layout, setup and teardown, advertising, sponsorships, and shipment of promotional materials.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Executive, Operations, Accounting, ITC, and Editorial Content teams on initiatives that support international sales objectives and enhance global brand awareness.
• Contribute actively to content development and design for the company website and e-book platform to better support international customers and drive sales of the e-Book Collection and the Flat-Fee Open Access Publishing Agreement.
• Monitor market trends and conduct regular competitor analyses to identify opportunities and assess how IGI Global Scientific Publishing addresses emerging market gaps.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to anticipate challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Solid understanding of networking, global markets, cultural differences, and international business practices preferred, but not required.
• Proven record of commercial growth in current and prior roles, with the ability to identify and capitalize on revenue-generating opportunities.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, supported by a thorough understanding of the challenges facing mid-sized independent academic publishers in international markets.
• Natural leadership abilities, with strong managerial and motivational skills to drive and achieve sales targets.
• Ability to prioritize workloads for self and direct reports to maximize profitability.
• Ability to lead high-value commercial negotiations and guide team members when necessary.
• Ability to clearly communicate global sales activities to key business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience being mentored and/or mentoring others.
• This position is full-time and based in-office at the company’s New York City or London office location.
• International travel required.
