STM submission on American Science Acceleration Project (ASAP)
The American Science Acceleration Project (ASAP) is an initiative of Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) that aims to accelerate the progress of science and empower scientists to be more effective and efficient. It posits that “our nation needs to: make an equally ambitious investment in data, compute and AI to build a superhighway for science; enable broader collaboration; and streamline the deployment process by reducing unnecessary obstacles to innovation.”
STM is strongly aligned with the goals of ASAP. On June 30th 2025, STM responded to the Senators’ call for information and feedback. The submission highlights the work of STM and its members to support innovation in infrastructure, research data sharing, and AI and notes that existing IP protections are good for AI and innovation.
