Lauren Maggio
Lauren Maggio, PhD, MS(LIS) is a Professor and the Director of Research in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Maggio holds a PhD in Health Professions Education (HPE) from the University Medical Center Utrecht.
Dr. Maggio’s research aims to understand how health professionals and learners access, evaluate, and use information, including information generated by AI, in clinical and educational settings, with the goal of improving decision-making, learning, and patient care. Dr. Maggio has contributed to over 200 peer-reviewed publications and has led and collaborated on numerous grant-funded projects. Methodologically, Dr. Maggio’s research is grounded in rigorous qualitative and mixed methods approaches, allowing the capture of complexity, user experience, and implementation challenges.
Currently, Dr. Maggio is the Editor-in-Chief of MedEdPORTAL, the Association of American Medical Colleges’ journal of teaching and learning, and sits on the editorial boards of Academic Medicine and Perspectives on Medical Education. From 2021-2024, she served on the United States National Library of Medicine’s Board of Regents.
