Stay True to the (AI) Act — Stay True to Creativity and Knowledge
A united cultural and scientific front is calling on EU policymakers to honour the intent of the AI Act and uphold the core principles that protect Europe’s creators, researchers, and rights holders.
As implementation unfolds, there is growing concern that current drafts threaten to dilute the Act’s original safeguards—especially around transparency, consent, and enforceable rights. These are not optional. They are foundational to building trustworthy AI and ensuring the future of culture, science, and democracy.
Tuesday at the European Parliament, STM CEO Caroline Sutton moderated a discussion with a standout panel of leaders from across Europe’s creative and cultural sectors. Among them: Björn Ulvaeus – ABBA co-founder and President of CISAC; Christian Van Thillo, Executive Chairman, DPG Media Nederland; Olivier Nusse, CEO of Universal Music France; Anne-Sylvie Bameule, President of Actes Sud; Jesús Badenes Del Río, CEO of Planeta Libros; Carmen Paez Soria, Undersecretary of Culture at the Ministerio de Cultura; and artists Kasia Lins, Marika, and Amir.
We are grateful to MEPs Brando Benifei and Michael McNamara for hosting.
“This is a pivotal moment,” said Sutton. “We need your help to ensure AI develops in a fair, human-centric, and ethical way—true to the law and to its original promise.”
