Melissa Harrison

Melissa Harrison is currently Head of Production Operations at eLife Sciences Publications, Cambridge, UK. She is instrumental in setting up and managing the systems required to peer review, process and publish content as efficiently as possible, where possible utilizing new technologies and shaping the way to improve the process for authors by giving them more control. She has a great interest in the collection of content in xml format at as early a stage in the editorial process as possible as a means to improve the process and increase the speed, scope and possibilities of the publication of scientific content.

Prior to joining eLife in 2012 Melissa spent a large part of her career at the BMJ Group working on the specialist journals. Since graduating from Kings College London with a degree in Biological Sciences she pursued her career in publishing and has fulfilled a number of production roles in small publishing houses. She also spent a short time working for an Indian publishing services vendor.

She is chair of the JATS4R working group, a member of AAMIR (author accepted manuscript institutional repository) working group and also a member of the Threaded publications working group.
