Role Overview
As a Research Inclusion Officer, you will define and set clear goals for IOP Publishing in relation to inclusion and equity for editorial stakeholders, working with others to develop and implement initiatives to help the business meet those goals. We aim to improve diversity when it comes to authors, reviewers and board members across our journals, as well as to ensure that the content we publish is inclusive and respectful. As part of this varied role, you’ll work with multiple teams across the business to ensure our goals and objectives are met and promoted.
What will you be doing?

- Analyse and report on our DE&I performance within the business;
- Manage the externally facing DE&I content on our website;
- Work with stakeholders to ensure the content we publish is inclusive;
- Establish IOP Publishing as a leading voice on research inclusion within both the academic community and the publishing industry.
This is not an HR role, and this person would not be expected to work on issues relating to people processes or culture within IOP Publishing, e.g. recruiting a diverse workforce. This role is firmly tied to ensuring our products, services and experiences are representative of a diverse scientific community.
About you:
Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrable experience within an academic publishing or academic support setting;
- A keen interest in DE&I;
- Experience identifying, analysing and interpreting trends or patterns in data;
- Experience creating and/or delivering training ;
- Experience managing small-medium sized projects;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- Previous attendance of DE&I courses would be beneficial but are not essential.
We know it is unusual for someone to tick every box so if you don’t meet all the criteria, but demonstrate most of the skills and experience we are looking for, and have the enthusiasm to work with us, go ahead and apply.
What we offer:
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer employees an excellent pension scheme (up to 12% company contribution), discretionary annual bonus scheme, 25+ days holiday (not including bank holidays), standard 35-hour working week, volunteering days, and a comprehensive benefits package including private medical insurance, life assurance, and a range of flexible benefits such as cycle to work scheme, discounted gym membership, healthcare cash plan, and payroll giving.
Flexible Working:
The contractual location of this role is our Bristol office, but we have recently moved to a hybrid working model with a dynamic and blended combination of office and remote working, dependent on business and team requirements.
As there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office every week, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to Bristol once a quarter, subject to business needs.
To apply, please submit your CV and cover note through our careers site.
We aim to review applications soon after they are received and will arrange interviews when there’s someone we’re keen to meet, so please don’t hold off applying until the closing date is approaching – we don’t want you, or us, to miss out!
