GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Editorial Outreach Specialist is responsible for delivering on strategies to build editorial engagement, including editor recruitment, training, resources, and rewards; and promoting research integrity, publishing ethics, and EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility) across CSP journals, including management of ethics cases(from investigation through resolution). The role reports to the Director, Integrity and Engagement and has no direct reports.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Develops and implements strategies in partnership with Journal Development Specialists to identify, vet, and recruit various types of editors and editorial board members; prepares profiles on suitable editorial board candidates
2. Monitors and reports on progress against journal targets on editorial board diversity and expansion, taking appropriate actions to fill gaps
3. Conducts onboarding, training, and offboarding of editors and editorial board members; develops resources and other training materials
4. Helps develop and deploy an editor rewards program to recognize outstanding contributions and build engagement
5. Maintains excellent working relationships with editors, editorial board members, reviewers, authors, and other stakeholders to build journal loyalty and increase submissions
Integrity
6. Monitors and conducts research on emerging trends and best practices in research integrity, EDIA, open science, and publishing ethics to inform the development of policy and guidelines
7. Contributes to the rigour and trustworthiness of CSP journal content by
o managing pre- and post-publication ethics cases(conducts investigations into instances of potential misconduct, corresponds with stakeholders, and corrects the scientific record as needed), recruiting assistance as needed to solve tricky and discipline-specific problems
o advising and educating editors and colleagues on ethical matters
o tracking trends in ethics cases across journals to identify emerging challenges and recommend potential actions
o identifying, testing, and recommending adoption of new research integrity tools and methods
8. Builds an active profile in the industry by proactively engaging with relevant organizations, initiatives, and researchers working in ethics and integrity to build and maintain CSP’s reputation as a publisher of trustworthy research
9. Keeps up to date on publishing developments and trends and makes recommendations on how CSP should respond and adapt to these developments (e.g., develop new policies and practices)
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements
· Honours Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering OR a Bachelor’s degree and significant experience in scholarly publishing, OR equivalent.
· Highly adaptable and results-focused professional with demonstrated ability to conduct research, summarize findings, make data-based recommendations, and develop action plans.
· Familiarity with scientific research and(or)publishing environments.
· Desirable assets include:
o Knowledge of communications, training, and stakeholder engagement principles and practices
o Experience with COPE workflows and guidelines
o Passion for advancing EDIA
Skills
· Familiarity with editorial and peer review processes, publication ethics, and integrity issues affecting scholarly publishing.
