Michael Taylor

Mike is an innovator in scholarly metrics and social impact.  Since getting involved in altmetrics in 2011, Mike has written several papers on the subject, conducted much research and is working towards a PhD with Mike Thelwall at Wolverhampton University. His proudest professional moment has been talking at the AAAS on social impact, and being invited to participate in a seminar at the EC on similar issues.

Currently, Mike works at Elsevier, in their Metrics and Analytics group, where he researchs and develops a variety of metrics, using all types of data. He is co-chair of the NISO Working Group on non-traditional research outputs metrics and identifies, and is collaborating with two groups of academics in the EU and US on two sponsored research projects in the area of social impact and semantic assertion modelling.

Mike Taylor has worked at Elsevier since 1996. Before joining the Metrics and Analytics group, he was in the Elsevier Labs group, and before that in a variety of technology groups throughout Elsevier.

He has been involved in many open initiatives over the last few years, most notably contributing to the architecture of the Orcid repository and API prior to its launch.

Mike is the co-founder of ElevenOne Theatre and an active director, producer, writer and actor.
