Thomas J. Rump, Managing Director, HighWire Press

Since his arrival at HighWire Press in 2011, Tom Rump has been instrumental in strengthening the company's management processes, developing its strategic and business plans, and helping to lead HighWire to new levels of success. Under his helm, the HighWire management team has grown to reflect the realities of today's ePublishing challenges and opportunities, paying attention to process and efficiencies, and pushing through the completion of HighWire's transition to the fully standards-based and innovative HighWire Open Platform.

Through Tom's relationship with HighWire's customer base, and his emphasis on the expansion and throughput of the product road map, he demonstrates a deep understanding of HighWire's unique position in the scholarly publishing ecosystem. As partner to scholarly publishers, intimately connected to a top level research institution, and part of the library world, HighWire understands that libraries and publishers are both tasked with the responsibility to successfully run their 'businesses', on behalf of their constituents. Business-model agnostic, our focus is on improving the dissemination and retrieval of scholarly information.

Previously, Tom's career encompassed senior positions, most recently as General Manager of the Wolters Kluwer company, CT Summation Solutions, which provides software and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions supporting enterprise content management, e-Discovery and litigation for Law Firms, Corporations and Government. During his four-year tenure, Tom drove the company strategy, and delivered to the market a suite of products that garnered numerous industry awards and high customer satisfaction.

Prior to Summation, Tom was a client partner in Cognizant Technology Solutions, and before that president of Cyntergy, a professional services company providing consulting and call center solutions for global hospitality and food service companies. For five years, Tom was CEO of the Cedar Group, responsible for the North American strategy and execution for that company; subsequently he led Cedar's world wide consulting practice with particular successes in higher education and government sectors.

Tom began his career with IBM, rising to Chief Officer for finance, planning, and administration of an IBM unit responsible for sales and marketing for the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. While at IBM, Tom received numerous awards and promotions.

While living in Maryland, Tom served on the Board of Directors of the Special Olympics of Maryland, and on the Board of Directors for the Tech Council of Maryland.

Tom earned his B.S. in Business Administration and MBA in Strategic Planning and Finance at the University of Pittsburgh.
