Rick Luce

Rick Luce is Vice-Provost and Director of Libraries at Emory University. His most recent publication A New Value Equation Challenge: The Emergence of eResearch and Roles for Research Libraries is part of CLIR's Report No Brief Candle: Reconceiving Research Libraries for the 21^st Century.

Rick has held numerous advisory positions centered on information technologies, e-publishing, and scholarly communications. He is a member of the DataONE Advisory Board, the SPARC Steering Committee, and past member of the National Academies Committee on Assuring the Integrity of Research Data in an Era of E-Science. He has served on three NSF Blue Ribbon panels, and been a steering board member of the Coalition of Networked Information (CNI) and the Digital Library Federation. From 2000-2006 he was the senior advisor to the Max Planck Society's Center for Information Management and an executive board member of NISO (1998-2004).

Prior to joining Emory, Rick was the Research Library Director at Los Alamos National Laboratory (1991-2006), internationally recognized for its pioneering digital library. In 2005 he was awarded the Fellows' Prize for Leadership at LANL, the first ever awarded to a nonscientist.
